Top Alberta fundraiser takes reigns of Calgary Health Trust

Mike Meldrum takes the helm as President & CEO

Beginning Monday, May 6, Calgary Health Trust is pleased to welcome Mike Meldrum as the new President & CEO, taking over from Dr. Chris Eagle, who will continue to serve on the Board of Directors.

Heading into its third decade, Calgary Health Trust continues to be one of Calgary’s largest fundraising organizations working alongside Alberta Health Services – Calgary Zone (AHS). Over the past 23 years, the organization has invested hundreds of millions in philanthropic support which has led to significant improvements, innovations and enhancements to the care of Calgarians.

Mike Meldrum’s leadership and experience as one of Alberta’s top fundraising professionals will build on the momentum generated by Dr. Eagle in gathering the community to rally behind important health issues. During Dr. Eagle’s two-year term as President & CEO, Calgary Health Trust laid important groundwork in funding research and innovation for Calgary’s hospitals and community health initiatives.

“Mike Meldrum’s reputation in the non-profit sector positions Calgary Health Trust well in solidifying it as a leading philanthropic organization in Alberta,” explains Board Chair, Bill Sembo. “He has a history working with major campaigns that have funded innovation and created big change – a direction Calgary Health Trust is continuing to grow momentum in.”

Mr. Meldrum joins the organization with over 20 years of fundraising experience, most recently leading a dynamic team at Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) as the Associate Vice President, Advancement. He has been at the helm of campaigns raising in excess of $100M and brings a breadth of non-profit knowledge from his work in the post-secondary sector.

“I am excited to be joining Calgary’s fundraising community. I started my career here and have always been impressed with the incredible generosity people from Calgary and Southern Alberta provide to important initiatives,” said Mr. Meldrum.

“I’m most looking forward to working with stakeholders in exploring opportunities where community investment will drastically improve outcomes and lessen the challenges faced by our health system; such as the city’s changing demographics, limitation of public funding, innovation and technology, and generally addressing patient access and overall quality of care.”

Calgary Health Trust is a key partner with AHS and is the fundraising organization for the city’s four adult acute care hospitals, community health centres, as well as Carewest, a subsidiary of AHS that operates several continuing care sites. The organization also supports care in the community through a variety of programs and services.

Over the past year, Calgary Health Trust has made major strides towards its commitment to advancing care, research and learning in newborn health. Beginning today, Mr. Meldrum will lead the organization through this transformational project and further engage community support.
