This year, participants can expect amazing swag bags full of goodies and many other surprises along the way!
The 2024 Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run, Walk & Wheel supports Calgary Health Foundation and Newborn Care: Calgary Health Foundation funds breakthrough investments, like giving every newborn a fighting chance. We’re ensuring the one in eight babies born prematurely in our community have access to the best technologies available, and we’re actively addressing Alberta’s higher than average preterm birth rate through applied research. Your participation and support through the Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run, Walk, & Wheel will support our ongoing support of neonatal intensive care units.
Every step you take in the Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run, Walk, and Wheel is a step for Scarlett!
The NICU is a place that most people don’t know about until they need it. For Katie Fraser and her husband Kyle, it was a place they came to know for 113 days while their daughter, Scarlett, was taken care of when she was born at only 24 weeks and two days.
Katie remembers her obstetrician, Dr. Wood explaining everything to her and being reassuring that she was in good hands. And at just 30 days old, Scarlett required heart surgery to close a duct in her heart. Katie recalls the surgeon being incredibly kind and telling her, “Now I know your daughter is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.”
Those words have stayed with her almost 7 years later now and made a lasting impact on her, emphasizing the incredible care they received in the NICU.
For Katie and her family, it is vital to give back to Calgary NICUs which is why they are participating in the Sport Chek Mother’s Day Run, Walk, and Wheel this year.
